Those of you who deal with our Matamata store in Factory Road will know Fred well, he has an important position working alongside Jerome Benefield as a storeman/admin/handyman etc.
Fred was born in England and after serving in the Royal Navy and the Kent Police moved to South Africa in 1975 where he settled in Johannesburg and Durban working on the Gold and Diamond Mines in the Transvaal and in Natal in the property development market.
He moved to NZ in April 2005 with his wife to join his daughter and grandchildren, who had made the move some 4 years previous.
On moving to New Zealand, his daughter, who was a Geologist converted her degree to teaching and began teaching Science at Matamata College, hence the reason he also moved to Matamata, as the family could be close togeother.
Being a person who literally worked 7 days a week, Fred couldn't just stop working, and felt fortunate to get the job he is now doing which helps keep him fit and active and although it is far removed from what he was previously doing, Fred is enjoying every minute of it.
